In The Beginning
Oil on stretched canvas by me Walt Curlee. The size is 18"x24", created in 2017.
Client: Notre Dame Magazine for image of Notre Dame Chapel as it may have looked when it was erected. For use for prints.
This is my vision of the first church in Northwest Indiana, a log chapel erected by Father Badin as early as 1832. Father Badin’s chapel was destroyed by fire in 1856. It was known as the “Indian Chapel.” Father Badin is talking to an indian couple, stew is cooking in a pot. Others are viewing the beautiful lake just before sunset. The 525 acres surrounding the chapel site would become the University of Notre Dame.
This painting would make a great donation to the Universite of Notre Dame.
